We all need to eat, and Canadian farming is a critical part of putting food on the table. But what about the impact of farming on the environment?

Farming For the Future explores how new technologies and agricultural practices increase the efficiency of crop production, while reducing negative effects to our climate. You’ll discover what makes for healthy soil, and why it’s vital to our farms.

Transcript
Audio Visual

A lively instrumental country song plays in the background.

The video opens with a wide shot of the Farming For the Future exhibition.

The shot quickly changes to a close-up of panel text, a screen showing farm equipment in a green field, a child pressing the buttons on an interactive display, and then the same child with hands on a steering wheel in an interactive display.

The lively instrumental country song continues to play in the background.

A museum employee speaks directly to the camera:

“Welcome to Farming For the Future at the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum.”

The video shows a museum employee standing in the foreground, smiling at the camera while she speaks. A green tractor interactive is visible in the background.

“This new exhibition digs into the practices and technologies that increase the efficiency of crop production, while reducing negative effects to our climate.”

The video quickly changes to show a couple of seconds of a ground-level accessible interactive, the starting screen for the interactive, an adult helping a child use the interactive, and a close-up of panel text.

“Climb aboard a life-sized tractor cab — or enter an accessible cabin at ground level — to digitally drive a tractor. See if you have what it takes to plant corn in a sustainable farming operation.”

The video quickly changes to show a close-up of a toddler climbing the steps of a tractor cab, a wide shot of the toddler reaching the top of the tractor cab with a parent in view, the toddler smiling while turning a steering wheel, a wide shot of another adult helping a young child with the accessible interactive, two shots of children using the accessible interactive, a close-up of the video screen, a shot of a young boy turning a steering wheel, a shot of a mother with a child on her lap, a wide shot of the same mother and child, and a shot of a young boy standing inside the wheel of the tractor cab.

“Reserve your tickets today!”

A mother reaches her hand out to help her son, standing inside the wheel of the tractor cab, step down to ground level.

Exhibition Highlights

  • Farming Adventure: Ever wondered what it's like to drive a tractor? As part of the exhibition, you can climb aboard a life-sized tractor cab — or enter an immersive, accessible cabin at ground level — to digitally drive a tractor. See if you have what it takes to efficiently plant corn in a sustainable farming operation!
  • Try out an interactive! Where does carbon come from and where does it go? In this interactive, you can push coloured buttons to follow carbon’s journey as it moves through the environment.
  • Precision agriculture: Discover how technologies — such as GPS guidance, drones, and sensors — can help farmers grow their crops in a more sustainable way.
