Immerse yourself in the many ways that we reveal, observe, explore and alter hidden worlds, from the smallest objects to the deepest parts of the oceans and universe.
For hundreds of years, microscopes have been at the centre of discoveries in science. They reveal the complex structure of cells and all the materials around us. Scientists, students, makers and artists have creatively used and adapted microscopes to see the smallest of objects.
C. R. Percival’s Microscope Slide Collection, 1895–1954
C. R. Percival spent his life capturing the beauty of nature so others could study it. His skill at collecting and preparing samples meant his slides were shared.
The conservation team at the Museum has taken micrographs (photographs through a microscope) of these slides.
