A map of Canada which shows the locations of all forest disruptions (forest fires or logging) over the 30 years between 1985 to 2010.
Researchers from the Canadian Forest Service have created a time-series map of where and how forests have been disrupted between the years of 1985 and 2011. This is specifically tracking logging/harvesting and forest fires. A staggering 10 percent of our country's total forests saw some kind of damage over the almost 30 years. This type of research is helpful in tracking the Earth's carbon cycle, which is critical to understanding our changing climate.

Jesse Rogerson, PhD
Jesse is a passionate scientist, educator, and science communicator. As an assistant professor at York University in the Department of Science, Technology, and Society, he teaches three classes: History of Astronomy, Introduction to Astronomy, and Exploring the Solar System. He frequently collaborates with the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, and lends his expert voice to the Ingenium Channel.
