OTTAWA - Tuesday October 18, 2016 - Member of Parliament Mr. Peter Schiefke, MP for Vaudreuil-Soulanges and Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister for Youth, and the Canada Aviation and Space Museum launched the Museum’s newest mobile application today. Space Frontiers: Dawn of Mars was developed with Toronto’s SEED Interactive, specialists in gamified marketing, experience design and creative development. This is the third mobile application developed by the Museum. The other two, Ace Academy and Ace Academy: Black Flight have seen tremendous success. Black Flight alone was downloaded over 100 000 times in more than 170 countries.
As commanding officer of M.E.T. 003, the third Mars Expeditionary Team, players are on a one-way mission to land and establish the first permanent settlement on Mars. Players explore real Martian locations through engaging narrative gameplay, and turn a fledgling outpost into a thriving metropolis.
Elements of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) education are incorporated through tasks such as controlling a fleet of rovers and extracting precious resources from Martian soil. This newest endeavour by the Museum in the digital world presents another example of its commitment to engaging youth and promoting STEAM education through modern and creative outlets.
The game is available for free download in the iTunes store and on Google Play:

“Space Frontiers: Dawn of Mars is a great step towards further engaging youth, in Canada and abroad, in the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) discussion. The mobile application highlights the broad spectrum of career opportunities in STEAM. Youth can pursue science and engineering to dive into a career of space exploration; or they could pursue technology and arts to dive into a career of mobile application development.”
