Students explore the evolution of air transportation in Canada, the changing technology and the stories of the people responsible for keeping our skies safe. Created for high school History, Careers and Visual Arts students, this kit will take students on a journey of debate and discussion, inspire them to examine the cultural impact of air travel, and help them uncover a multitude of exciting career possibilities.
Students learn about:
- the history of aviation in Canada
- the evolution of air traffic management systems
- the development of phonetic alphabet
- bilingualism and the debate over the official language of the skies
- the experiences of women in air traffic management
- the skills required to work in air traffic control / management
- the impact of air travel as expressed by artists Pudlo Pudlat and Annie Pootoogook
This interactive bilingual edukit developed by the Canada Aviation and Space Museum is an engaging and inspirational look at a world most of us are aware of but few truly understand. The kit includes a teacher’s manual with background material, lesson plans, source materials, equipment, props and games.
