This inspiring exhibition from Perimeter Institute enables youth and their families to take a hands-on approach to learning the process of science. From delving into two of the world’s largest science experiments to exploring changing ideas about our universe, this immersive experience fosters curiosity and a better understanding of how we investigate our world.

Travelling to schools and science centres across the country, the Power of Ideas Tour includes an interactive presentation for youth that draws on stories of Canada’s past and inspires the innovator in all of us.

Quantum: The Exhibition (December 14–April 1)

The first-ever of its kind, this exhibition examines how quantum mechanics and information technology are merging to create new technologies that will revolutionize and define the twenty-first century.

Using creative stories and engaging multi-level interactives, this exhibition breaks down the barriers of this fascinating science for people of all ages and backgrounds. This bilingual, accessible exhibition was created by the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo.

Panel – Canadian Failures: Stories of Building Toward Success (December 11)

What does it mean to fail? To some of the most successful Canadians, it was a rite of passage, a stepping stone to greater things, or even a brilliant source of inspiration. Olympic golds, successful businesses, pioneering medical advances — all came about after a series of missteps and countless attempts. Panellists include Robert Thirsk, Erica Wiebe, Eric Chan and Alex Benay, all of whom have grappled with failure and success throughout their lives. Their powerful argument: that Canada, and Canadians, must be willing to learn from failure if we hope to succeed.

SESQUI HORIZON Pop-up Dome (December 9–17)

This 20-minute, hemisperical film is a soaring visual symphony that places viewers in the centre of the action, as a showcase of Canadian creative expression unfolds from coast to coast to coast. HORIZON takes its audience on a revealing expedition, from the highest peaks to the deepest seas, and through all ten provinces and three territories. Drawing upon artistic inspiration from across our country’s rich cultural mosaic, the film features traditional and contemporary creative works set in the unforgettable urban and natural landscapes of our diverse nation.

Actua Maker Mobile (December 9–11)

Actua’s Maker Mobile is a moving maker space packed with exciting, cutting-edge technology that encourages participants to experiment and build with hands-on learning.

Actua’s Maker Mobile Innovation Stations give participants a first-hand look at the tools and technologies used by innovators and people who want to use Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) to make the world a better place. Canola! Seeds of Innovation

Marking the fiftieth anniversary of canola as a “made in Canada” crop, Canola! Seeds of Innovation is an  interactive exhibition presented by the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, along with its partners from public and private agriculture sectors. The exhibition explores the ingenuity of Canadian plant researchers, who took on the challenge of creating a healthy vegetable oil from rapeseed and succeeded in developing one of Canada’s most important crops: canola. Discover the scientific, agricultural, economic, and social impact of this versatile plant through hands-on discovery, digital games, audiovisual presentations, and a live exhibit highlighting the role of bees in canola pollination.
