Looking to bring a fun and interactive technology experience into your classroom or youth group — but not sure where to start? Ingenium would like to introduce you to Rent-a-Tech!
Rent-a-Tech is a new initiative that combines temporary technology rentals with easy-to-use educational resources. Each Rent-a-Tech Kit includes micro:bit electronic devices, which blend coding with tactile “tinkering,” to offer on- and off-screen learning opportunities. In addition, every kit includes digital literacy resources for teachers and youth — designed to jump-start your group to creatively explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM).
Buying digital equipment is an expensive endeavour, and you may be unsure if it’s worth the investment. Rent-a-Tech allows you to borrow supplies for your educational setting — whether you’re a teacher or a youth group leader.
Unfamiliar with coding or micro:bit devices? No worries! Rent-a-Tech offers a series of online resources designed to help your learning curve, ensuring you get the most out of your rental. These include:
- handouts
- introduction activities for you and your students
- lesson plans specific to Ontario and Quebec curriculum
- a troubleshooting guide
- discussion documents about engagement, facilitation, and learning assessments
Teacher information
Each Rent-a-Tech Kit comes in a sturdy case which includes:
- 30 micro:bits and accessories (battery holder, battery, USB wire)
- alligator clips and headphones
- printable templates and activities worksheets for students

After booking your kit, you will also be given access to a “Tech Advisor Session” with a museum specialist. You can choose to use this session as a professional development workshop for yourself, or to assist your students at a chosen stage of their projects.
