OTTAWA, December 9, 2015 — The Mining and Metallurgy Legacy Project, a partnership between the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM), and the Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation, conducted with support from Hatch, MetSoc (Metallurgy and Materials Society) and CMP (Canadian Mineral Processors), aims to highlight many of the country’s significant events, inventions, and advancements in the natural resource sector.
Since February 2015, William McRae, the project lead with the Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation, has travelled across the country gathering an oral history of the natural resources sector in Canada.
Throughout the project, Mr McRae has met with many distinguished Canadians who have shared their stories. He has interviewed the founder of the world’s largest gold-mining company, philanthropist, and Order of Canada recipient Peter Munk; metallurgist, inventor, and patent holder Robert Lee; CEO and chief owner of McEwen Mining Inc., chairman of Lexam VG Gold Inc., and former chairman and CEO of Goldcorp Robert McEwen; former diplomat, and expert in conflict resolution Louis Guay; mechanical engineer and former president and vice-chancellor of the University of Alberta Indira Samarasekera; and many more.
