Learn about the journey from cow to cone by joining us at the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum’s annual Ice Cream Festival! You can practise your milking technique on the museum’s wooden cow, and learn how dairying technology now includes milking machines and robotic milkers. Help make ice cream with an old-fashioned manual ice cream maker, then taste the fruits of your labour. Step back in time to the 1950s and discover the history of ice cream scoops and sundaes, including a sample of this delicious treat. Other activities include crowd-pleasing performances by Capital Jumpers, a dance party with DJ Rico, and a photo booth! Also on the schedule are samplings of sorbet floats, and a kids’ corner with crafts and games. A variety of food services and local ice cream vendors will be on site. Don’t miss this tasty treat of a day!

Step back in time to a 1950s-style Soda Fountain Shop and learn about the history of sundaes! Discover how this treat soon became one of the most popular desserts of choice for the young and young at heart. Plus, get the scoop on scoops…discover how the ice cream scoop has changed over time.

Dairy Farmers of Ontario – From Cow to Cone
Find out how much milk a cow produces each day, and how much of that milk is cream. How many ice cream cones does that make? The quantities are truly amazing! You can even practise your milking technique on the museum’s wooden cow.

The Capital City Jumpers are a jump rope team coached by two nationally-ranked jumpers. Jump along with them and learn various styles of jump rope. All ages welcome.

Frozen treats will be served to our visitors during this fun-filled day! Look for one of the museum’s mascots or staff members, who will be handing them out.
Parks Canada: Learn-to-Camp activities
Are you interested in going on your first camping trip but don’t know where to begin? The Learn-to Camp team has you covered! Visit the Parks Canada pop-up campsite and participate in activities that introduce you to camping.

Rookie Riders Kid Zone
Rookie Riders is a National Program, providing an opportunity for children to experience the joy of equestrian sport, starting on a barrel. This skill building program introduces activities and games which will help kids develop balance, coordination and flexibility.

Sauvetage Bénévole Outaouais – Ottawa Volunteer Search and Rescue (SBO-OVSAR) is a not-for-profit, volunteer organization that assists individuals and communities through search and rescue operations, education and prevention programs, and through providing support to emergency response organizations.
