Join us at the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum from March 2nd to 17th as we celebrate all things spring during our annual Barnyard Break! In the demonstration kitchen help us to bake a delicious maple treat and in the barns come and meet some of the newest members of the farm family. Then visitors are invited to get creative with a craft. 

Daily Activities:

Baking with Maple Syrup - 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Did you know Canada produces 80 per cent of the world’s maple syrup? Join us in the kitchen to help prepare delicious treats while you learn some interesting facts about maple syrup.   

Animal Demonstrations

10 a.m.  Groom a Calf – Dairy Barn
11 a.m.  Meet the Rabbits – Horse and Cattle Barn
12 p.m.  Meet the Lambs and Kids – Small Animal Barn
2 p.m.  Meet the Dairy Breed of the Day – Dairy Barn
3 p.m.  Meet the Hercules – Horse and Cattle Barn
4 p.m.  Afternoon Milking – Dairy Barn
(Please note the Dairy Barn closes daily at 4:30 p.m.)

Story Time for Children – 11:30 a.m.

Listen to a story about a little boy and his mitten full of animals during our Story Time.

Craft – ongoing activity

Stay warm and cozy in our craft corner while creating a winter themed craft.

Special Features:

Maple Taffy on the Snow – Saturday, March 2nd from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

There are very few things that mark this time of year quite as sweetly as maple taffy! Join us to discover the process of turning maple sap into taffy and taste a sample (while supplies last). Take a few minutes to admire a variety of historical photographs and common tools used in the production of maple syrup.

Ottawa Valley Wild Bird Care Centre – Saturday March 9th and
Sunday March 10th at 10:00 a.m.

Through pictures, videos, and closely examining bird nests, visitors will learn about nest construction, including materials used, building techniques, and their location in nature. Students will also learn the basics of bird development, dangers baby birds face in nature, and participate in the “Momma Bird Challenge” game.

Pancake MORNINGS – Saturday March 16th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Enjoy delicious pancakes served with maple syrup (while supplies last).
