If you’ve ever dreamed of exploring a distant planet, now’s your chance – and you don’t even have to leave Ottawa to do it. This spring, the public is invited to test-drive a virtual reality application at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. The application – called Minerva Prime – is being developed by a group of students from Algonquin College. Dushan Horvat, the professor for the Game Development class working on Minerva Prime, explains the application’s theme. “Humankind has already

Horses, like humans, are susceptible to all sorts of health concerns. Vets use diagnostic tools and tests – which range from incredibly simple to exceptionally high tech – to try to determine exactly what’s wrong.

Hello, my reading friend. Shall we begin? Initially used by the United States Navy, the Felixstowe F-5L maritime patrol flying boat in the photo we saw in the first part of this article was converted into a 12 passenger airliner at some point in the early 1920s. No information on its first civilian owner(s) has come to light. In the late 1920s or early 1930s, the F-5L was acquired by Atlantic Coast Airways Corporation of Delaware. This airline, incorporated in June 1928, obtained six or so these

It’s not every day that you can sit back and enjoy a pint of beer while being entertained – and informed – by a professional scientist. But that’s exactly the idea behind the concept of the science slam. Modelled after the poetry slam, a science slam challenges scientists to deliver a five-minute, educational talk – while keeping their audience highly entertained. “I love educating others about the work I do, and seeing their eyes light up when I talk about fish and wildlife,” says Sarah Walton

It’s National Volunteer Week 2018, and here at Ingenium we have so much to celebrate! Over the coming week, the Ingenium Channel will be profiling just a few of our amazing volunteers. Today, we take a bird’s-eye view of volunteers at Ingenium – and why they mean so much. The old proverb, “Many hands make light work” seems especially fitting in the context of volunteerism at Ingenium. At each of our three museums – the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, and

This text has been adapted from the Picturing the Past website, developed by the Canada Science and Technology Museum in 2006. In addition to building the rail system across the country, Canada’s two national railway companies (Canadian National Railways and the Canadian Pacific Railway) built a string of grand hotels in the major cities and resort areas of the nation.

In honour of National Volunteer Week – April 15 to 21 – Ingenium is putting the spotlight on just a few of its invaluable volunteers. In today’s profile, the Channel highlights Manel Zeghal – who currently volunteers with the Canada Agriculture and Food Musuem. By Manel Zeghal I used to live across the street from the burial site of my personal hero, Tommy Douglas. In today’s profile, the Channel highlights Bill Upton – a volunteer with the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. As a young boy in the 1960s, Bill Upton loved aviation so much that he spent his spare time writing letters to Canadian aviation manufacturers. “I would write letters multiple times a month, asking for photographs or lithographs of their products,”
