Did you know, my reading friend who likes to keep abreast of what is going on this planet of mad / insane people called Earth, that a flying saucer landed, at sunrise, near the monastery of the Collège Mont-Saint-Gabriel, in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Québec, on 22 February 1970? Yes, yes, a real flying saucer. With 3 crew members. This landing caused quite a stir among the population of the place. Lady Rumour had a field day. More than one person wondered in fact if nasty sea, sorry, alien

Howdy, my reading friend, and how are things in your corner of this flat, sorry, circular planetary body we call Earth – which is kind of funny given that most of Earth is made of rock, much of which is molten, but I digress. Today’s peroration is brought to you by the 15 to 31 March 1970 issue of Aviation Magazine international, a French bimonthly magazine yours truly discovered around… 1970, when I was barely in my teens – and had plenty of short hair on my noggin. The article in this very

As a greeting, my reading friend, I make you the solemn promise to be brief, at least for this week. Let us begin our peroration, dare I say (type?) pontification, with a visit to the second edition of the Salon (international?) de l’Auto, held at Place Bonaventure, in Montréal, Québec, from 15 to 25 January 1970. One of the many, many visitors at this event was none other than Charles Aznavour, born Shahnourh Varinag Aznavourian. This world famous French author composer interpreter, actor and

Space, the final frontier. A catchy opening for this issue of our blog / bulletin / thingee, don’t you think? This expression known to so many, or so few, is also very appropriate given that the individual at the heart of said issue was truly one the great space artists of the 20th century. Before we get there, yours truly would like to quote the caption of the photograph I found in the 24 January 1960 issue of the Montréal, Québec, weekly, La Patrie du dimanche. And there it is, in translation

Good morning, and ... What is it I hear? You want to know the names of the characters played by the actresses and actors visible in the photograph above? Am I not entitled to a small hello? Sigh. Know then, my slightly overenthusiastic reading friend, that said actresses and actors played the following characters in the Québec science fiction television series Opération-Mystère: - Luce Guilbeault, Cellamare, an extraterrestrial, - Marcel Cabay, Professor Narthon and Arsène, 2 naughty and kind

Kon’nichiwa and hello, my diligent reading friend, yours truly hopes that life is treating you well. As the year of space which 2019 was slowly comes to a close, it occurred to me that a final look at a space movie, a Japanese space movie, Uchû Daisensô to be more precise, might be of interest. Mind you, I also thought / hoped that this topic would not turn into one of my typical how-to-be-brief-in-222-volumes textravanganzas. To my great chagrin, I soon discovered that translations of Japanese
