Zdrasvstvuyti / hello, my reading friend, and welcome to what appears to be yet another non aeronautical or spacey issue of our blog / bulletin / thingee. Before you blow the proverbial gasket, please allow me to point out that there will be some aeronautical content in the paragraphs below. Indeed, may yours truly introduce the first element of this content, in order to prevent your discontent, by quoting the caption of the photo I found in the 26 March 1959 issue of The Gazette, a newspaper

Good day, my reading friend. How are you? Good, good, I’m delighted. Me too. Aware of the fact that, for some, there is more to life than airplanes, yes, yes, I know, I’m blabbering nonsense, but let’s not dwell, yours truly, say I, agrees to present you a subject that strays somewhat from the range of work of my employer, the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, in Ottawa, Ontario – one of the most interesting institutions of its kind in North America, if not the world. You smile, my reading

Hello, and welcome to another edition of our blog / bulletin / thingee dedicated to aviation and space that will not discuss aviation or space. I must admit to having been intrigued by the photo above. I’ve never seen Joseph Henri Maurice “Comet / Mr. Hockey / Rocket” Richard, a big star of the Club de hockey Canadien Incorporé, an organization mentioned in a July 2018 issue of our blog / bulletin / thingee, shoot and score but I have often heard about this man over the years. How do you move a library and archives? Very carefully. As Ingenium’s archivist, a big part of my role lately has been to prepare for a major move to the Collections Conservation Centre — scheduled for completion later this year. If you live in Ottawa, you may have noticed the construction site right next to the Canada Science and Technology Museum. Ingenium staff will soon begin moving with two museum collections into the new building. Among the collections to move are the library and archival

May I begin this week’s issue of our blog / bulletin / thingee with a heartfelt welcome, my reading friend? Yours truly realises how long this winter has been and how much you look forward to be on the road again, to quote the title of a 1979 song made popular by Willie Hugh Nelson, and the theme song of a very popular Canadian Broadcasting Corporation television series hosted by Wayne Victor Rostad, On the Road Again, which remained on the air between 1987 and 2007. It is therefore with some

Hello and… What is it, my reading friend? You seem unseasonably upset today. You do not like the fact that yours truly chose an automobile as a topic for this week’s issue of our blog / bulletin / thingee? Well, too bad, so sad, as a former colleague of mine at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, in Ottawa, Ontario, sometimes said in such circumstances. Even though I am not all that interested in automobiles, the title of the 9 February 1969 article that came my way as I pored over the now

What’s this, my reading friend? You wonder why our blog / bulletin / thingee, dedicated as it is to all things aeronautical and spacey, is once again dealing with something as mundane and boring as an automobile? Well, for starters, yours truly was intrigued by the presence of a photo of a Soviet automobile in a catholic newspaper from Québec, Québec, namely L’Action catholique. Was 1 February 1959, the day when said photo was published, a slow news day? We shall never know. In any event, the

Hello there, my reading friend, and welcome to the first 2019 issue of our blog / bulletin / thingee on the wonderful world of aviation and space, and… What’s this? You do not think that an air cushion caravan fits the mandate of the Canada Aviation and Space Museum of Ottawa, Ontario? I respectfully beg to differ. This unlikely hybrid did lift off the ground, did it not? Besides, you can’t tell me that you are not the least bit intrigued by the image yours truly dredged up from the January 1969

Greetings, my reading friend, yours truly who has worked very hard salutes you. To my great shame, I must confess to having once again strayed from the righteous aeronautical and spatial right that leads to a happy and carefree retirement. Our topic for this week has indeed nothing to do with the fields of activity of my employer, the Canada Aviation and Space Museum of Ottawa, Ontario. Verily I say to you, I must confess to have been intrigued by the photo above, as fuzzy as it is, which
