The Canada Aviation and Space Museum and the Military Family Resource Centre of the National Capital Region (MFRC-NCR) would like to invite you to the annual National Child Day event. Come and discover your inner hero at the Museum and join us in this celebration of our military heroes and their families. Children are invited to dress up as their favourite superheroes and participate in a day of crafts, tours and activities designed to let their creative abilities shine!
Free Museum admission and parking for all military personnel and their families.

Sauvetage Bénévole Outaouais - Ottawa Volunteer Search and Rescue (SBO-OVSAR)

SBO-OVSAR is a not-for-profit, volunteer organization that assists individuals and communities through search and rescue operations, education and prevention programs, and by providing support to emergency response organizations. Come and meet some of the members and learn about Search and Rescue and our Prevention Programs.

The League of Super Heroes is a fundraising organization whose members share a love of comic books and movies about superheroes. This costuming group has combined their passion for super heroes with raising money for various charities and promoting local events in the city of Ottawa. Come and meet your favourite superheroes as The League joins us to celebrate National Child’s Day!
The Professional Engineers of Ontario
The Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) ensure that the public is protected and that individuals and companies providing engineering services uphold a strict code of professional ethics and conduct. This group of engineering superheroes will be at the Museum to help kids design and build their own creations and will ensure that these new structures are safe to use.
Ottawa Fire Services*
11:00am. to 12:00pm
Not only do Ottawa Fire Services protect us when there are fires, but they also conduct rescues and deal with medical and hazardous-material emergencies. Come meet with the firefighters at the Museum on National Child Day. Don’t miss this great opportunity to hop on board their fire truck!
OPP Auxiliary Unit
The OPP Auxiliary is a group of dedicated volunteers who work with OPP officers to ensure the safety and security of the Province of Ontario. Several members of the Auxiliary Unit will be at the Museum to talk to visitors about what it takes to be a volunteer officer.
Canadian Forces Military Police *
The Military Police contribute to the effectiveness and readiness of the Canadian Forces and the Department of National Defence through the provision of professional police, security and operational support services domestically and worldwide wherever the CF operate. As part of our National Child’s Day celebration, members of this unit will be on site with their police vehicle!
Capital City Garrison, 501st Legion
The members of Ottawa’s Capital City Garrison, 501st Legion will don their Star WarsTM costumes as they join us to celebrate our heroes. Come and meet some of your favourite Star WarsTM characters in person!
The Canadian Space Society (CSS)
The CSS will be guiding young guests through simple rover programming exercises using MakeBlock Starter Robot Kits. Bilingual programming will be available throughout the day, and CSS volunteers will be highlighting opportunities for young Canadian space enthusiasts!
Hero’s Heart Foundation
The Hero’s Heart Foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization comprised solely of volunteers operating in Ottawa. The Foundation works to enhance the lives and build community appreciation and respect for our First Responders, serving Canadian Armed Forces members, and Veterans. Come and join the volunteers as they put your little superheroes through training activities that will enhance their superhero skills!

Patrick Reymond and the Magical Theatre Show
All ages - 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Patrick the Magician and his Magical Theatre present a fun blend of magic, manual dexterity, poetry and comedy. This crowd-pleasing show features a touch of the absurd, along with lots of audience participation for the young and the young at heart.
Printmaking Workshop — The Canadian Military in Action
All ages - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
From Banshees flying over Canadian navy ships, to Hercules unloading jeeps in Afghanistan, to the Snowbirds flying in formation over the Museum, these scenes provide a glimpse of Canadian Forces aircraft in action.
Ejection Seat Demonstrations
All Ages - 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
